Hip Hop Abs Test Group Day 1! This morning started bright and early, yet I practically hopped out of bed 5 minutes before the alarm! I got up, considered making breakfast, chose not to (mistake), but to instead wait for the food we would receive at the gym. I headed down to Rockefeller Center to find the gym, went in, signed up for my comped membership, and looked around this ultra plush New York City gym. Huge locker rooms with tons of amenities, a nice cafeteria stocked with all the drinks and snacks you'd normally see at Vitamin Shoppe, and a nice size actual workout area with tons of great equipment. I could get used to this!
After getting some foam rolling in, it was finally time to go into the studio room where we would be working out. There before us lay the glorious coolers filled with food! We excitedly rushed over and looked at what we would be feasting on that day:
- Breakfast: broccoli scallion egg white scramble with turkey bacon
- Snack: tuna salad on mixed greens with salad dressing
- Lunch: slices of sirloin on arugula with salad dressing
- Snack: celery with almond butter
- Dinner: shrimp and asparagus
Since I was by now starving, I was ready to get through the workout JUST so I could eat! We got weighed, and then walked in the man, the myth, the legend…Shaun T. Decked out in his own Shaun T logo gear, matching from head to foot literally, he popped in some hoppin music, complete with Shaun T shoutouts added over popular current songs…and the fun began.
To be clear, Hip Hop Abs is crazy fun, but also a really intense cardio workout, complete with jumping, squatting, and always, always crunches…the core, pun intended, of Hip Hop Abs. It's called tilt, tuck and tighten, and boy did we ever! Just when I didn't think I could jump one more time, the move would change and we'd be doing something else. It was definitely a great workout.
Afterwards Shaun T made sure to tell us that it was OUR class, and that he was there for us, and would be down with us more than on stage in the future. I will say it was quite the experience to have Shaun say "freestyle!" and suddenly be right there on your shoulder moving and grooving with you!
Once class was over I went over to the cafe and filled my water bottle with much-needed ice water, and sat down to try one of my meals (mistake, by the way, the cafe doesn't take kindly to people eating food not their own in the cafe). At first I was going to eat the breakfast, and I even said so in my video, but I eventually realized I needed to eat the second meal and save the breakfast for the next morning, so I dove into the tuna salad and mixed greens.
The day consisted of trying out the various meals, each one anticipated more than the last since we have been put on a strict 1100 calorie daily intake for the first week as an adjustment period into the new lifestyle. I've never been a celery fan, but I devoured it just to have something in my stomach.
Now it's time for bed, past it rather, and on to another exciting day of Hip Hop Abs!!
